Campaign to freeze student fees

MPs have tabled a 'prayer' in the House of Commons in an attempt to freeze student fees for next year.

Fact: Graduates on low incomes are now paying a marginal tax rate of 40% (20% basic rate tax, 11% national insurance, and 9% student debt repayment) - and that's before other deductions such as pension or trade union subs!

Fact: New Labour introduced tuition fees of up to £1,000 in 1998/99, and top-up fees of up to £3,000 in 2006/07
